The Toaster

For 15 years, we had the pleasure of owning one of the most unique and lovable cars on the road: a 2005 black Scion XB. Boxy, bold, and surprisingly practical, we affectionately nicknamed it “The Toaster” — because, well, it looked like one. That nickname stuck, and over the years it became less of a joke and more of a badge of honor. If you know Chad and me, we also noticed, one side came out darker than the other. Haha.

What always amazed us was how much room that little cube on wheels had inside. You’d never guess from the outside, but the Toaster was like a magician’s trick — roomy, reliable, and ready for anything. Road trips, grocery runs, moving days — it handled it all without complaint. Well, when it was windy… it was a rolling box.

Eventually, it came time to let the Toaster go, but not without one final adventure. We drove it from Des Moines, Iowa all the way up to Fargo, North Dakota, where it would spend its retirement with my parents. It was only fitting that a car with so many memories would end its journey with family. We also got to enjoy some well deserved time with people we love at some great stops in Fargo!

The Toaster was more than just a car. It was a companion, a conversation starter, and a dependable sidekick for over a decade. Here’s to the miles, the laughs, and the oddly satisfying shape of a car we’ll never forget.
