Chiang Mai – Chef Food Tour

A Delicious Deep Dive into Northern Thailand: Eating Chiang Mai with local chef and foodies.

Muoi

If you think you know Thai food, this tour will happily give you a challenge—in the best way possible. We spent about 3.5 hours eating our way through Chiang Mai with Muoi, our incredibly knowledgeable guide, and it turned into one of those experiences that sticks with you long after the last bite.

Packed with 15+ dishes, this Chef’s Tour is a delicious challenge even for serious food lovers, with a strong focus on Northern and Northeastern Thai cuisine that you don’t always find on standard menus.

Khao Soi with braised beef.

We met at Wat Lok Molee at 10 a.m., were greeted, then hopped into a classic red songthaew truck, and from there it was nonstop eating, learning, and exploring. Muoi didn’t just explain what we were eating—she brought the food to life with stories about the region, the history behind the dishes, and the people who make them.

The Chad

Khanom Jeen Nam Ngiaw (น้ำเงี้ยว)

Every stop felt intentional, local, and well-loved, and her easy rapport with vendors made it clear these were places to be that we might not have experienced without this tour.

Neng Earthen Jar Roast Pork (เหน่งหมูอบโอ่ง)

The food just kept coming, try this, try that, too many to show you in one post. By the end of the tour, we didn’t just feel full—we felt plugged into Chiang Mai, the restaurants, the markets in a way that’s hard to replicate on your own.

When you think you have no more room…

…a delicious dessert appears, Thapthim krop (ทับทิมกรอบ) – “Rubies in coconut milk.” Everything you wanted for your life! The Chad approves. YUM!

If you’re in Chaing Mai, give a Chefs Tour a try.
