La Tapiata Tienda Mexicana

Ahhh Friday. I am lucky enough to have Friday afternoons off, lately that means clean the house or mow the lawn. Today, I decided I was going to venture out and go to this Mexican market I found on Des Moines/SE 14th Street. It is called La Tapiata Tienda Mexicana and I love it. I found a recipe for Tacos El Pastor (according to Wiki Spanish for shepard style) and I needed to get some chili’s, cheese and annatto seeds for it. I never really need an excuse to go to a new market but I knew that La Tienda would be a one stop shop. They have a great selection of fresh produce and a great bakery at ridiculous prices. I was elated when I found a huge piece of tres leches cake for $2. Needless to say I am hooked on this place. I also bought some Coke made with real sugar, queso fresco (crumbly cheese) and some Queso Oaxaca (Oaxacan string cheese). Here are some of the yummy things I found with my finds. Since my little adventure I just shake my head when I stop at other stores around town and realize I could pay 3 to 5 times more for the same ingredients.

I think I will keep this one my secret… except for you of course.
