Agua Fresca

Summer. Fresh ripe fruit. Agua Fresca.

Aguas Frescas is a drink popular in Latin American cultures. It’s a way to get a refreshing drink to beat the heat, while enjoying the wonderful flavors of ripe fruit. All you need is some fruit, water, limes, sugar, and ice. Then you’re in business. Use cantaloupe, strawberries, pineapple, watermelon, or really any fruit you wouldn’t mind drinking.

Watermelon Agua Fresca Recipe

4 lbs of seedless watermelon (rind removed)
1 cup cold water
1 tbsp of sugar
1 tbsp of fresh squeezed lime juice
Mint sprigs
Lime slices
Ice

Cut the fresh watermelon into small pieces, making sure you remove the rind. In a blender combine half of the watermelon and half of the water. Blend until smooth. Pour into pitcher. Repeat (unless your blender is very large). Add the lime juice and sugar (to taste). Serve over ice with a mint sprig and a slice of lime.

If you use a seeded watermelon or do not like your drinks with chunky watermelon bits. Run the mixture through a sieve before adding the lime and sugar.

Relax and enjoy!
