It is amazing what a can of sweetened condensed milk and some boiling water can create…
While trying to figure out what type of cheesecake to make for a birthday. I thought, “Dulce de leche.” Then I thought, “why not make it harder on myself and try to make it at home.”
Sure, I like a challenge!
I have eaten dulce de leche flavored treats for years. I have also known that you can make it at home with a can of sweetened condensed milk. I have just never attempted it.
Dulce de leche is made from sweetened milk which basically has its sugar caramelized.
To do so you will first need to read up on how you want to make this tasty treat. When you Google, “homemeade dulce de leche’ you will find several topics about ensuring the can doesn’t blow up on you. At first, this freaked me out a bit, but after some research I was relieved. Not that this cannot happen, but most likely it will not happen if you ensure you always have enough water in your pan. If the water runs out of the pan you may be at risk for a dulce de leche bomb. Be careful!
If you are still scared, maybe you should search for other methods. Last resort, maybe Nestle can help you out.
The process.
The anticipation.
The result.
Deliciousness.
The final result.
I used some of the dulce de leche in the cheesecake batter, then drizzle the rest over the top when serving. Yum!
Give it a try! Remember to not run out of water. Enjoy!
